In pre-9/11 America, there were efforts undertaken by the government's various agencies that involved every aspect of protecting the country and the American people. Beginning with my early days as a devoted son of a U.S. Marine, I had always had a calling for the military. I had joined JROTC in high school and joined the US Navy upon graduation. My tour of duty was completed onboard a nuclear attack submarine. Several years after I got out of the Navy, I found myself returning to federal government service within the Executive Branch. This new job requirement eventually led to my response to Ground Zero, then to leading a team on covert anti-terrorist operations, and finally ending in my illness from exposure to a mixture of toxins, particles, and smoke.... a sickness that brought me to the edge of death and hastened by the neglect of my government. The same government I took an oath to serve, that asked me to go to Ground Zero, that would place me in harm's way time after time for the following four years.
